On wrong numbers and no sleep

I’m still in bed.  Day two is even more boring than day one was, not to mention I feel worse than yesterday and it’s just flat getting on my nerves.

Speaking of getting on my nerves, allow me to vent about wrong number calls for a sec.  See, I didn’t sleep last night I really need sleep to feel better.  Finally around 8:30 this morning I managed to doze off.   Then they started.  The phone calls.

Let me back up a sec.  When we bought our house 3 1/2 years ago, we were assigned a new phone number.  From the very first day the calls started.  Apparently we’d received the old phone number of the local Ziebart store, and they apparently do a lot of business on the phone!

You wouldn’t believe how many calls we got at first!!  The phone book still had our number listed under them and all day long I was answering the phone.  By the way, SBC was less than sympathetic.  I called and said “Hey you dorks gave me a business number and I’m getting dozens of calls a day!” and their policy was something like “Too bad, so sad” if I remember correctly.  So we stuck it out, finally a new phone book was released and it did get better.

Only you’d be surprised at how many people keep phone books for years.  I’m not sure what they do with the new ones, use it for toilet paper, line the bird cage, stuff their bras, I don’t know.  What I do know is even after all these years we still get calls a few times a week for Ziebart.  Some people are really sweet and apologetic about it, but others are oddly indignant that I am not, in fact, equipped to tint their windows or paint their bumper.

So anyway, today was a big day for Ziebart calls, all while I was trying to sleep.  I am pretty sure it was the same people over and over, too.  Why do people think if they call enough times they’ll actually get the right people?  The last time the lady was all chatty about it.

Lady:  “Did you know your number is in the phone book under Ziebart?”

Me (all sick and grumpy):  “Did you know you have a really old phone book??”

Lady:  “Oh, hmm.  Do you get alot of calls for them?”

Me (She wants to chat, are you kidding me?!?!):  “I used to.”  Short and sweet, just let me go back to sleep!

Lady:  “Well, it could be worse, you could be that lady who has Paris Hilton’s old phone number!”  I’m not kidding, she really said that.

Me:  “No, that’d be hot.”  Okay, I didn’t really say that, I was way too out of it to be clever, but I really wish I had!!   I just mumbled something like “Haha, yeah, totally.” and hung up the phone.

Oh my goodness people, I really need to get some sleep.

  1. Sorry to laugh at your lack of sleep but that conversation is hysterical! I can’t believe the lady actually tried to carry on a conversation after dialing the wrong number!! That’s too funny. I sure hope you’re better tomorrow. It’s a bummer to be sick for so long!!
